Just A Slight Change

I swapped out the old cutenews script I was using for my poetry with one I wrote myself. It has no view count, or commenting features, but I like the idea of less spamming problems there.

The style output is almost identical to the way they were laid out before, so no one will notice much of a difference when viewing the poetry section. This was much more of a backend update than anything else.

IE ActiveX Compatibility Patch

As most are aware of by now, Microsoft had to make changes to their ActiveX controls that affect users operating on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

I made a note of this in another news post, outlining the fix I had implemented here on my site. Since this fix, it seems my site loads slower, and I don't like that at all. I am looking into other ways to deal with this, but in the meantime, I would like to point out to the affected users that there is a patch to fix it on your own end.

Microsoft has released an Internet Explorer ActiveX Compatibility Patch. You can download the right patch for your windows version, and then you will not have the problem of running into anymore "Click to activate and use this control" prompts.

Search Engine Optimal

I just ran my site through Sitening's SEO Analyser Tool, and you can see my site's results here. I had to tidy up some inline styles, but that was all that was wrong. I guess I cannot get a perfect score of 100 because of my Flash menu, but I am good with getting a 90.

A New Monitor View

I recently acquired a new computer. I was able to view sites through a much better flat panel monitor, and I did not like what I saw. I was overly sharpening my graphics to make up for the blurry view on my old monitor, and I don't like how they look now. Some I can fix, some I will scrap, and some I will just make new.

My header here had some messed up places that my old monitor hid from my eyes. I have fixed it now, and can actually stand to look at this site again.

Since the June Microsoft update, there is no user-end public patch available. Webmasters need to have all ActiveX content coded for use with IE 6 and above.

I noticed that the IE flash fix was not working on my gallery. I spent a couple hours getting a workaround to work for that section. So, it does now, BUT.. you should all use Firefox or Opera (Safari perhaps, if on a Mac), seriously.

More Anti-Spam Measures

I did not really want to do it. It is not that great accessibility wise, but I needed to. Too many bots sending out their stupid spam crap that no one wants. I added an image validation (CAPTCHA) to my contact form.

I don't know how well it will work. Only time will tell. If it doesn't seem to be cutting down on much of the spam I get, then I will just remove it. Hopefully it will work, and not put off too many people that seriously want to use my form to contact me for valid reasons.
